The role of internal communications in a growth company is much more than sending out employee newsletters. As internal communications consultant Daria Kissner explains, one of the practice’s responsibilities is to reinforce company values that help inspire, inform, and connect colleagues — especially at a time when real-life connections among coworkers are hard to come by.

Not even a global pandemic can stop IPOs, assuming market trends and financials align. But the pandemic adds new wrinkles to the complex process of managing communications around an IPO, as the talented communications leaders at two companies well know. In September 2020, Unity Technologies and Sumo Logic went public; but years before, Amanda Taggart (former global director of PR and communications, Unity) and Melissa Liton (senior director of global communications, Sumo Logic) began the long process of planning out how the event would be communicated, including bringing employees into the eventual IPO celebrations.
We asked Taggart…
It’s a fantastic experience to take something from employee number one and grow all the way now to 75 people spread throughout the country, where everyone is contributing great ideas, and everyone is really passionate about how to make things better and take the next steps.
When Alon Mozes was a kid growing up in Miami, Florida, he was sure about one thing: No way would he ever follow in his father’s footsteps and become an endodontist.
Mozes kept that pledge. But as fate would have it, he didn’t stray all that far. In fact, Neocis, the company he co-founded…

The convergence of enabling technologies makes the current “AI spring” feel different.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here today and actively shaping how we live, learn, communicate, and consume. The groundswell of interest in this technology was evident at the fourth annual (and largest ever) MIT AI Conference last month. As one of the conference co-chairs, I had the privilege of orchestrating the 1,000+ attendees, 60+ speakers, and 5 days of content that came together to virtually discuss the topic of “AI for a Better World.” …
We think we can safely say that anyone who’s home with kids during the pandemic deserves all the extra superhero medals, pats on the back, and any other reward we can think of. We’ve all been on the Zoom calls with kids interrupting, asking for snacks, fighting, you name it — and many of us have been those parents and caregivers trying hard to calm, soothe, and care for kids while coworkers are watching. With a fall school term of distance learning becoming more likely, the disruption will continue.
Success is not a straight line. It’s a very bumpy road.
If there’s a consistent theme throughout Rajiv Khemani’s career, it’s his willingness to go all-in.
Figuratively, that is — and for the record, Khemani is more of a poker and bridge player. What’s clear is that when opportunity has knocked, Khemani has tried to defy the odds with the opportunities that came his way. …
